Habitat destruction, especially from mining coltan (a mineral used in phones, tablets, and other electronics), is wiping out gorilla homes at an alarming rate. That’s why the College of Health Sciences has teamed up with the Memphis Zoo to support the Gorillas on the Line initiative. For the next two weeks, we’re collecting used electronics to recycle—because recycling reduces the demand for new coltan and helps protect gorilla habitats.
