Arthur C. Clarke was an influential British science fiction writer, futurist, and science popularizer, best known for co-writing the screenplay for the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. A former radar specialist in the RAF, he proposed the concept of geostationary satellites for global communication in a 1945 article, a vision that became a reality for modern telecommunications.
