The expansion will open or add hunting opportunities at 16 different wildlife refuges across the country.
Starting Sept. 2, America’s hunters and anglers will have access to an additional 87,000 acres of federal land managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Pro-hunting and conservation groups are already cheering the move, which the Department of the Interior announced Wednesday. The DOI says the final rule approved Aug. 28 will open or expand hunting and fishing opportunities at 16 national wildlife refuges (as well as one national fish hatchery) across 11 different states: Alabama, California, Idaho, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington. Check out the story for a complete list of the affected refuges.
