Mariska Hargitay spoke to The Times about why she chose to direct "My Mom Jayne," a documentary about her mother, versus writing a book.
"I had so much internal work to do. I had to really shore myself up and and heal myself to make sure that I could come at it in an open, curious and objective way," therealmariskahargitay said.
During the pandemic she found boxes of letters that she had received over the years while starring as Olivia Benson on "Law & Order: SVU" from people who knew her mother.
"I’d sort of go, 'Ahhhh,' and put it in a box — literally, put it in a box. This is a story of opening boxes, physically and metaphorically," Hargitay said.
