U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly stated he “loves the gays” when he was preparing to become a presidential candidate. According to The New York Times, Trump privately explained his thinking on gay-related policy issues, such as marriage equality, by stating “I love the gays. They pay the most for the weddings.”
The remark comes to light amid a wider record of anti-LGBTQ+ actions during his second term, including executive orders and policy rollbacks targeting the trans community.
Back in 2024, Trump courted controversy with some of his Republican base for allowing a same-sex marriage to take place at this residence-cum-private members club Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
