Lauren Gunderson, credited as a contributing screenwriter on Pixar’s Lightyear, has responded to rapper Snoop Dogg’s recent remarks about the film’s same-sex couple, saying she’s proud of including the moment.
On Threads, Gunderson explained that in early scripts, a character needed a partner and choosing “she” instead of “he” felt natural.
“Small line, big deal. I’m proud of it. To infinity. Love is love,” she added, “Stuff like this matters because beautiful love like this exists.”
Last week, Snoop Dogg told the It’s Giving podcast that he had watched Toy Story spin-off Lightyear, which featured a same-sex kiss, with his grandson, who had asked him: “Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman.”
The singer recalled thinking: “Aw s**t, I didn’t come for this s**t, I came here to watch the god-damn movie. Y’all throwing me in the middle of this s**t that I don’t have an answer for.” He went on to say: “It threw me for a loop.”
