The Trump administration has ordered states to strip references to transgender people from federally-funded s3x education programs or risk losing millions in funding. The directive, issued by the Department of Health and Human Services, gives 46 states and territories 60 days to comply. California has already lost $12 million of its remaining funding after refusing to make changes. The restrictions apply to the Personal Responsibility Education Program, which provides funding for s3x education geared toward vulnerable young people, including those in foster care, in geographic areas with high teen birth rates or who come from racial or ethnic minority groups.
