The recovery of endangered Mexican gray wolves hangs in the balance, largely due to a lack of genetic diversity. Yet on behalf of the livestock industry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture recently shot and killed a 3-month-old wolf pup in New Mexico. In April the agency executed the mom of the Bear Canyon pack in Arizona, even though she was probably pregnant.
