Jen Psaki calls for solutions. JD Vance defends prayer. Minneapolis families are left caught in the middle.
In the aftermath of yet another school shooting, even our grief becomes divided. Some argue that prayers are hollow without policy change. Others feel that prayer is the only way to make sense of the senseless. Both speak from real pain—but when that pain turns into finger-pointing, we lose sight of what truly matters.
Prayer can comfort. Action can prevent. We need both. Dismissing prayer alienates those searching for hope, while stopping at prayer alone leaves families unprotected from the next tragedy. These aren’t opposing responses—they can and should exist together.
Instead of bickering over how the “other side” is reacting and grieving, we should channel our shared heartbreak into unity and work toward solutions that will help all of us.
