I wasn’t sure what to expect from a visit to an Ossuary at night. I confess, I didn’t even know what one was till I found myself already inside one of several that can be found in the town of Brno in Czechia [the Czech Republic]. I found it to be oddly inspiring and thought-provoking. Which was as surprising to me as the ossuary itself. I thought I might find a lot of bones in a cavern far underground to have a sinister feeling. In the end, I think Brno’s Ossuary at the Church of St James (Kostnice u sv. Jakuba) and its collection of human remains showed me that bones are merely that, bones. In and of themselves, they don’t hold anything approaching evil. They are what we make of them. And we can choose how we view them.
