“Everyone’s saying Pilates is replacing yoga.”
I came across that line while scrolling Instagram the other day. As a yoga teacher, you bet I read the whole thing!
It started strong—acknowledging that yoga and Pilates are different modalities. Then came the case for yoga being a more complete practice: flexibility, mobility, strength, and—if you take it off the mat—emotional, spiritual, and mental growth. Totally agree 🙂↕️
Then it said: “There’s room for both.” And that’s where I paused. Because in theory, yes. In the ideal world, absolutely.
But when it comes to business—especially brick-and-mortar studios—it’s not so simple. You don’t usually see both a yoga and a Pilates studio side by side in the same plaza.
It’s one or the other. And most of the time, it’s the one trending harder. That’s just the reality. We have to get smart 👏
If you run a yoga studio, consider offering Pilates as a complement—not competition.
If you’re a yoga teacher, it’s okay (and smart) to learn Pilates...
