I’ve been trying to rewrite my bio over the last few days, and it got me thinking about how my practice and teaching styles have changed over the last five years. I initially fell into yoga after a childhood of being a gymnast/acrobat wannabe, mostly because non-professional training for age 17+ was rare back in 2005, and since I was already flexible I figured I’d be “good at it”. Yoga became my way of feeding my ego, to be able to put my body into crazy shapes just to say I could and to impress others, and sometimes to punish myself when I was feeling flabby and unfit. And then I discovered acroyoga and was overjoyed to find something that reminded me of the way I moved my body growing up, and was hungry to be able to just do more cool shit. Needless to say, when I eventually started teaching, my head was in the wrong place as I was focused on creating physically-challenging flows to show off what *I* could do.
