Yesterday I received the highest compliment of my life - an elderly Indian uncle held my hand and said ‘since my wife started watching you, I’ve noticed she wears her kurtas more, puts on a bindi everyday … she’s more comfortable in her own skin - thank you’. He just said it and walked away / I came back in tears (again) . I’ve been privileged enough to have access to the best of things (thanks to my husband / before MIL reminds me 🙄), designer clothes, the highest heels, fancy jewels - but when I decided to get on this stage, I decided I’m going to be me as I want to see myself. Comfortable (cotton kurta), quirky (belt!), imperfect (messy bun), modest (sweaters for life) and fully grounded in my sneakers (no more pretending I like 👠) .
