Many architects aren’t accustomed to clients looking to renovate without adding on. But David Weinberg and Gary Ventimiglia aren’t most clients. They’d actually opted to recently downsize when they found this 1926 Tudor in Silver Lake, and were pretty set on the floor plan. But during their first walk-through with architect barbarabestor of bestorarchitecture, their vision was turned on its head. “When she started getting very Barbara-like and creative, we saw something we hadn’t seen,” remembers Gary. “It was inspiring.” So, they gave her the go-ahead. And while Bestor readily admits that “Tudor is not my thing,” she was intrigued by the chance to do something “cool and unexpected” with the place. With help from her firm’s senior associate henbot and contractor Dave King, she managed to execute a renovation that was just that.
