About a decade ago, katromeyn’s life took an unexpected turn. The travel writer was working at a magazine in Los Angeles when she got hit by a lay off after a break up. In the aftermath, she escaped with a friend on a vacation to Bali and loved it so much that she decided to move there. Now she lives on the island full-time with her husband and two kids and built a “topsy-turvy” new home that comes with a few surprises. The biggest: a pink concrete pool on stilts that connects to the second floor like a watery balcony. Romeyn tells the story of her rosy retreat in her own words. “I savor the sense of wonder this home adds to our lives,” she writes, and we think it might inspire some awe in you, too. In anticipation of this year’s travel issue—which comes out tomorrow—we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite stories from issues past, like this one. Take the full tour at the link in bio, and keep an eye out for our new issue tomorrow.
