Back in 2008, we got the chance to visit architects Linda Taalman and Alan Koch out at their house in Joshua Tree. We figure it’s time we resurface the story from our archive.

The duo hatched the idea for the iT House in the early 2000s, hoping to design a house from prefabricated structural components and glass walls on which artists could later apply graphics. In 2006, they launched into construction, which was a sort of 20st-century barn raising during which they and their friends came out on weekends to work together. The basic thinking, Taalman explained, was to “take advantage of industries outside of the traditional building environment.
