In anticipation of our outdoor design issue hitting newsstands tomorrow, we’re taking a look back at a few of our favorite stories from issues past, like this windowless home in Singapore.

Their old home just couldn’t take it anymore. So for its replacement, Minh Le Tien and Emylia Safian decided to try something different. In their design brief to linghaoarchitects, the couple requested “a house that breathes naturally,” with spaces that are naturally ventilated and varied: cold and warm, light and dark, raw and crafted. The expanded 2,680-square-foot home embraces these contrasts with a raw concrete shell that opens to the elements. There are no glass windows. Instead, large voids slice through the building to bring in daylight and cooling breezes, and curtains of greenery sprout from inset planters. The best part? The couple now lives without air-conditioning—an anomaly in tropical Singapore. See more photos at the link in our bio.
