For queer and trans youth, the personal is political. In the face of record numbers of anti-LGBTQ+ bills brought before state legislatures last year, our January research report in partnership with the lgbtmap investigated the impact of politics and policies on the lives of LGBTQ+ young people. Here’s what we found: 🧡90% of LGBTQ+ young people reported that recent politics negatively impacted their well-being. 🧡45% of transgender and nonbinary young people said they and their family had considered moving states because of local LGBTQ+ politics and laws. 🧡12% of transgender and nonbinary young people had to cross state lines to access health care. 🧡LGBTQ+ young people living in states with more LGBTQ+ supportive policies reported greater well-being and less frequently crossing state lines for health care.
