Earlier this year, the 2025 LA fires devastated our city—but they also showed us the complete lack of sustainable systems to manage textile collection and recirculation, especially in times of crisis. People lined up around blocks to send clothes. Thousands of collection sites popped up around LA and across the country. Everyone “donated” more clothing than anyone knew what to do with, and LA was left of hundreds of thousands of pounds of textiles about to enter landfills. Because of this, our SUAY IT FORWARD program—the only fully circular textile recycling program in the nation—stepped in to accept over 120,000 lbs of unwanted fire relief textiles.
