Waste as opportunity. For the past 7 years SUAY has been building sustainable systems for textile reuse right here in Los Angeles. And to respond to the crisis of the moment, SUAY is taking the fire donation overflow and turning it into an opportunity to further educate the world on the power of upcycling. Since our SUAY it Forward program began we have reused over 4 million pounds of textiles through our remade clothing, community dye bath and repair programs. The amount of effort it takes to divert clothing from landfills and away from unjust exporting requires skilled manual labor, cleaning, storage, sorting, innovation and an unwavering commitment to sustainability at every turn. But to better respond to the crises going forward, we have to address the root causes.
