Columbus' South High School is home to many famous alumni ➡️ The school taught many notable figures like Vice Presidential candidate and US. Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Curtis LeMay, newspaper editor and civic leader Amos Lynch, Columbus’ 49th Mayor Tom Moody and news anchor Angela Pace. When it opened in 1895, it first utilized part of the Ohio Avenue Elementary School (on the corner of E. Fulton St. and Ohio Ave., near what is now Nationwide Children's Hospital). After two short years, the students were returned to the Columbus High School building at 6th & Broad streets. In 1900, the school opened its first standalone building at 345 Deshler Ave., steps away from Schiller Park. After 24 years in the location, the Deshler Ave. building became the Barrett Junior High School, and South High moved into a new home just a few blocks to the east.
