In the early 1970s, 'going to the mall' might mean a summer stroll down Yonge Street! From 1971 to 1974, the city experimented with turning a stretch of downtown Yonge into a pedestrian mall for a portion of the summer - including the novelty of some of the city's first outdoor licensed patios.
