#OnThisDay 50 years ago, a fire broke out more than 400m up the CN Tower. Local photographer Karl Lee was there to capture images of Toronto's emergency vehicles. The Toronto Star reported that the fire started when a welder's torch fell down an elevator shaft and landed on waterproofing material far below. Construction workers on the tower, which was nearing completion, were sent scrambling up staircases. Four workers were treated for smoke inhalation and minor cuts. 1.
