In Focus: Salvatore Emblema’s ‘Untitled / Ricerca sul paesaggio’ (1972)
Translating to ‘research on the landscape’, this sculptural work exemplifies Emblema’s interest in the space beyond the canvas.
Composed of large-scale metal nets coated in organic pigments, through which natural light can pass, the piece forms part of a series of installations pre-occupied with the possibility of a porous, light-letting framework, and the idea of open structures.
These interventions were conceived both as autonomous works and as preparatory maquettes for paintings, integral to the artist’s practice.
‘Untitled / Ricerca sul paesaggio’ is the sole sculptural work on view at White Cube Hong Kong alongside a selection of paintings spanning four decades of Emblema’s career.
📍 ‘Salvatore Emblema’ is on view at White Cube Hong Kong until 5 July 2025.
