Edgar Barrientos-Quintana spent 16 years behind bars wrongly convicted for a murder featured on the true crime show “The First 48.” The Minnesota attorney general’s office effectively alleged that the show shaped the case instead of the case shaping the show. Barrientos-Quintana’s exoneration may be the first in the country related directly to the involvement of the television show, but other controversies have prompted at least a half-dozen cities to end their relationships with the program.
