Dr. Joanne Stone cares for pregnant patients with a history of stillbirth at the Rainbow Clinic at Mount Sinai in New York City. It’s the first clinic of its kind in the U.S., based on a model of care created in the United Kingdom. Similar clinics have opened across the U.S. in the last few years.
There are more than 60 stillbirths a day in the U.S. Research indicates that at least 1 in 4 are likely preventable. Ireland, the Netherlands, Australia and other countries have worked to curb stillbirths, but in the U.S., rates remain stubbornly high.
“Before a Breath,” ProPublica’s new documentary about stillbirth in the U.S., follows three moms who have experienced this tragic loss as they work to make pregnancy safer for other families. Watch the film during our streaming premiere on YouTube Thursday, March 20 at 8 p.m. ET.
“Before a Breath” is distributed by ProPublica and thirteenwnet. You can stream the full film on YouTube.
