Patent Observations is a new three-volume publication series by publiccollectorslibrary — it highlights dozens of Los Angeles-based inventors and their inventions and was drawn from a database of 34,000 patents issued to local inventors over the last 50 years.
Driven by an interest in the unique style of illustrations that accompany patent applications, the series provides an intriguing glimpse of the diversity of Angeleno ingenuity. This project is an extension of Chicago-based artist Marc Fischer’s ongoing Library Excavations series, and was specially commissioned for the exhibition, No Prior Art: Illustrations of Invention, on view in Central Library’s Getty Gallery through May 11th.
Copies of Patent Observations are also available to check out with your library card or purchase from the Library Store.
