Today marks 80 years since Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), the end of the Second World War in Europe. We pause to remember the enormous contributions, sacrifices and losses made to secure victory. The Second World War transformed English society, including life in the countryside. Farms became the home front. Tens of thousands of women joined the ranks of the Women's Land Army as agriculturalists, sustaining English food. And farming practices mechanised dramatically to meet demand.
