17 years ago today, this hurricane struck Louisiana just 3 years after #HurricaneKatrina and #HurricaneRita. This hurricane history we’re taking a look at Hurricane #Gustav, which made landfall as a Category 2 storm in Cocodrie, Louisiana. While Gustav caused considerable damage & widesprad power outages well inland, in a state that was just beginning recovery feom Katrina & Rita in 2005, I’m always grateful that Gustav’s rapid intensification was disrupted due to land interaction with western Cuba. The system was nearly a Category 5 storm before passing over Cuba, and the system’s structure failed to completely reorganize before striking Louisiana as a Category 2. #HurricaneHistory #HurricaneGustav
