There are a few new updates for tourists travelling to Japan.
As part of the move towards sustainable tourism, Japan has introduced dual pricing for foreign visitors and is also phasing out tax free shopping.
Dual pricing means that foreign visitors will pay higher entry fees than residents at certain tourist attractions to manage over tourism and fund cultural preservation.
More recently, tourist caps have also been introduced at major attractions including at the Kyoto Temples, Mount Fuji and the historic city of Nara.
Similar measures have also been introduced in countries like New Zealand and Iceland, which are looking to avoid ecosystem disruptions by tourists.
