This 40-yard pass completion from quarterback Thomas Castellanos to wide receiver Squirrel White with 3:18 left to go in the first quarter happened as the Seminoles were faced with a 3rd down & 11. This allowed Castellanos to score on a 9-yard touchdown run on the following play to tie the game at 7. This play of Castellanos to White was important because, if they did not achieve the completion, it would have given the Crimson Tide the opportunity to go up 14-0 if didn’t get the conversion on fourth down or punted it back to their offense after Alabama just had a 17 play, 75-yard drive to begin the game.
