Patient-driven research is critical for improving research outcomes, especially in rare disease. There are about 10,000 rare diseases affecting a total of over 400 million people around the world. We funded 30 patient-led organizations through an incubator-style program that leverages the power of patients to achieve ambitious scientific goals. These small but mighty patient-led organizations exceeded expectations on all fronts—from engaging over 3000 new researchers, contributing to 182 publications, developing new disease models and more. We’re continuing to grow this impactful research program, which is now nearly 100 patient-led organizations strong.
