On this day in 1995: Two B-1B Lancers flew around the world in record time - 36 hours 13 minutes 36 seconds - during Exercise Coronet Bat. The bombers received inflight refueling six times from KC-135s and KC-10s. The aircraft were loaded with BDU-50 munitions: inert, concrete-filled 500-pound practice versions of the Mark 82 bomb. During the flight, the B-1s dropped the training bombs on three continents - Italy’s Pachino Range, Japan’s Torishima Range, and the Utah Test and Training Range. The exercise was more than an attempt at a world record, it demonstrated Air Force bombers’ global reach capability. For this feat, the crew members who completed the around-the-world flight were awarded the Mackay Trophy. Air Combat Command, Air Mobility Command, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Pacific Air Forces, U.S. Central Command, the Air National Guard, and the Air Force Reserve each contributed to the mission. . . . #Airman #Airmen #AirForce #USAF #GlobalReach #B1 #B1Bomber #B1BLancer #KC13...
