On Tuesday, September 2nd, Saint Michael’s College Associate Director of Athletics Annie Martin announced the hiring of Jack Fitzgerald as the new head coach for the Purple Knights’ men’s ice hockey program. Fitzgerald becomes the fourth head coach for the program since they became a varsity sport for the 1982-1983 season. Fitzgerald, a native of Guilford, CT, is a graduate of Amherst College where he played four seasons from 2015-2019, being the team captain his senior season. He accumulated 24 goals & 19 assists in 102 games for the Mammoths. He was named to the Winter 2019 #NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team, was a member of the Amherst LEADS Futures Program for three years and has been involved with Special Olympics Massachusetts since 2015. Fitzgerald immediately got into coaching, joining the Mammoths staff as an assistant where he held that title from 2019-2023. He led the recruiting efforts while heading up the power-play.
