After the grueling “Little Long March,” the Bailie School reopened in Shandan in April 1945. George Hogg had saved his school — and was full of hope for the future.⁣ ⁣ From his writings:⁣ “We have just 60 boys here now, with 20 smaller ones coming from Lanzhou in the summer. We’re busy fitting out our various workshops… carpentry, steam engine, electric generator, lathes, milling machines, benchwork and wool spinning. Down the other side are classrooms and at the back there are dorms. The temple bell, slung high above the classrooms, summons us to our various tasks. Unfortunately, the clapper is missing and someone substituted a sledgehammer, which has cracked the bell! But it is still loud enough to be heard all around town.”⁣ ⁣ In Shandan, George Hogg built not just a school, but a community — alive with learning, laughter, and promise.⁣ ⁣ Tragically, it was a future he would never see.⁣ ⁣ NOTE: This video contains AI-generated visuals based on historical records.⁣ ⁣ #WWII80 #Witnes...
