In Focus: TARWUK, ‘MRTISKLAAH_tnemevoM_dna_dnuoS_gnisicrexE_rof_erutcurtS_cisaB_eht_si_ereH’ (2025), at The Armory Show TARWUK see their paintings as ‘intimate moments of theatre’, implicating the viewer as they observe the fictitious scenes unfolding before them. In this work, orchestrated with the precision of a cinematic frame, TARWUK stages a disquieting encounter between a figure, architecture and an animal. The figure’s exaggerated gaze confronts the viewer directly, while behind him a façade of shuttered windows and an unlit doorway suggest a set emptied of action.
