True to Hermès' origins as a saddler and harness maker, saddle stitching has always been used for parts that require strength and solidity such as handles, fasteners, and straps. This sewing is practised by hand using two needles. Both ends of the same beeswax-coated linen thread cross at each point through the thickness of the leather. This ensures that even if a stitch should one day break, the robust assembly will remain intact.
