At Hermès, the carré is made using the “Lyon” silk screen printing process, named after the geographical region where this flatbed screen technique was perfected. This traditional technique consists of successively printing each color that constitutes the design of a carré, in a precise order.
Since its founding in 1837, six generations of artisans have safeguarded and nurtured their ancestral know-how in the Hermès workshops.
Meet the artisans behind Hermès’ sustainable craftsmanship until the 24th October 2021 at Hermès In The Making, Danish Architecture Center in Copenhagen.
