Staring at a blank document on #FightProcrastinationDay? Look to lasers for inspiration, which can act just as a multifuctional tool to create art like a paintbrush. This miniature recreation of Van Gogh's Starry Night was painted with a laser. By heating titanium above its evaporation point, researchers can obtain a bright palette of basic colors. With an increase in cooling time, the colors change from light yellow to brown and then turn to blue shades. According to TEM analysis, the thickness of the oxide film has been shown to increase with an increase in temperature. Passing a second laser over already colored areas can lead to color rewriting or the changing of one color to another one, like mixing paints on a palette. #lasers #STEMart
