Growing up in Panama resembled a World’s Fair— wherever you look there is someone with a different background and language. And yet, you learn to love all, because we are united under our shared identity. I learned about their history, our history, through the stories our families and friends shared. After studying in an even larger melting pot, New York City, it became really obvious to me: our power is held in the stories we tell ourselves and others. Lifting the voices of others, particularly those historically and systematically abandoned is my calling— because when we forget about others, we allow the worst to happen. I started
