[Generosity Traditions Around the 🌎]: This week's global generosity tradition is Harambee. Submitted by givingtuesday.ke, this is a common tradition in Kenya and throughout Eastern Africa. Translating to "all pull together," the notion is deeply ingrained in the moral compass of the country and encompasses a concept of placing the group before the individual. For Kenyans, a harambee represents an unwritten law of generosity, and regardless of class, ethnic group, gender or religious background, we will lend a hand to assist anyone in need. A harambee can be anything from a fundraising event to emotional support to a simple favor. Whenever an individual is facing a significant rite of passage or life event – such as a wedding, educational opportunity, serious illness or a relative’s funeral – and needs help, they will contact an elder family member or tribal leader.
