In honor of #WorldRefugeeDay, we launched a campaign to highlight all of the ways #RefugeesGive to their communities and the world. Here's a story from catholicreliefservices: “When we arrived in the settlement, life wasn’t easy. It was scary. The life of a refugee is a difficult life. We ran from bullets, but now we may die from disease.” Jimmy Laute fled civil war in South Sudan five years ago with his wife Jackie and daughter Stella. The family found safety in the Bidi Bidi settlement in Uganda. They were given a makeshift shelter that flooded every time it rained. But soon, Jimmy watched the camp grow into a community—a generous community—where he and his family could find help and offer help to others. Jimmy was a pastor before he was forced to flee. In the settlement, he was elected to a leadership position, working to communicate the needs of families to CRS program staff.
