She lived with lupus in extreme poverty, and fought for her life against the State to be allowed to terminate a pregnancy that put her life at risk. Additionally, the fetus was determined not to have a skull or brain, and would not survive beyond birth. Beatriz’s story is tragic and complex, with failures from the State at every level, and powerful support and protests from the people. The trial against El Salvador is about to take place before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. This case will affect the lives of women and pregnant people throughout the region.
