Vesuvio Bakery is a place of inspiration for Ggiata and a personal favorite in NYC. The shop opened its doors in 1920's New York and has temporarily closed because of the pandemic. Anthony Dapolito's parents opened the bakery the year he was born, he would be 100 today. The family used coal ovens in the basement to bake bread and muffins for a neighborhood once thriving with Italian immigrants. Later on Anthony took over the bakery and ran it for years, he was known as the unofficial "Mayor of Greenwich Village" and was a valued ally to Eleanor Roosevelt in the fight to save Washington Square Park from a freeway build.
