Is this what it means to “become one with nature?” You are looking at a collaborative "geochoreography” performance that places people in the natural environment to spotlight harmful human changes to the land. Here participants form the shape of a germinated seed with roots and corn stalks. Last April, vpam_arts curator Joseph Valencia, artist Carolina Caycedo (lacaycedo), and arts organization Ruta Del Castor (rutadelcastor) brought students from East Los Angeles College (elachuskies) to Xochimilco, Mexico City as part of a three-day gathering called “Sembrando Humedad (Sowing Moisture)." The program culminated in this artwork, which represents a commitment to the ecological restoration and sustainability of the region’s canals.
