Meet us at the barbershop. StylesVille, to be exact. StylesVille opened in 1958 and is the oldest Black barbershop and beauty salon in the San Fernando Valley, and perhaps all of Los Angeles. Opened by Freddie and Ollie Carter, the barbershop is currently operated by a third-generation family member, Greg Carter Faucett, who began cutting hair when he was 10 years old. Listen to this week’s episode of ReCurrent that talks all about the rich heritage of barbershops, and explores why they’re more than just places to get haircuts. These hubs of history and culture are places worth preserving. Listen now at the link in our bio, or wherever you get your podcasts. _ ReCurrent is Getty’s new cultural heritage podcast that shares stories about why it matters to keep our past present. New episodes every other week. #podcasts #GettyConservationInstitute
