"I think that if you can turn off the mind and look only with the eyes, ultimately everything becomes abstract." —Ellsworth Kelly Abstract artist Ellsworth Kelly started making totem-like sculptures like this one in the early 1970s. He was inspired by kouroi, rigid, upright statues of young men from antiquity. This work is more than 12 feet tall and stands dramatically against the grid pattern of the Getty Center's architecture. Kelly was born 100 years ago and to celebrate ellsworthkellystudio asked orgs around the world to share his artwork. #ellsworthkelly #ellsworthkelly100 #ek100.
