If you were an ancient Nubian and wore one of these flies, it meant you were a brave and courageous warrior. Fly pendants were typically worn in pairs around the neck. They were medals of honor for Nubian soldiers and represented the aggressive tenacity of the flies that live in the Nile Valley. Measuring nearly 5 inches tall, this fly pendant was just one of many excavated from ancient Nubian burials. It was made from gilded bronze and ivory sometime between 1700 and 1550 BC.
