“Nubia: Jewels of Ancient Sudan” is on view at the Getty Villa Museum through April 3, 2023! Ancient Nubia flourished over a period of about 3,000 years and was dominated by the Kingdom of Kush. The region (in present-day southern Egypt and northern Sudan) was rich in gold and ivory. Its vast trade networks connected it to the Red Sea coast, central Africa, and the Mediterranean. This exhibition presents highlights from the collection of Nubian objects at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and features precious jewelry, metalwork, and sculpture that represent the wealth and splendor of Nubian society. The gold and cornelian necklaces, earring, and pendant shown here all depict the ram-headed god Amun, the supreme deity of ancient Nubia. Check out the link in bio to learn more about the exhibition.
