Judy Baca’s “Hitting the Wall” mural is one of LA’s most iconic works of art. To underline the vulnerability of mural art, this focused display highlights the design, painting, destruction, and renewal of Baca’s 1984 artwork. The installation includes preliminary sketches, colorations, and an actual-size reproduction of a part of the mural.
On September 10, MOCA will open its doors to “Judith F. Baca: World Wall” at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA until February 19, 2023.
“World Wall” is rooted in the idea that to achieve world peace, people must first be able to envision it. Baca painted the first four canvas panels; as the work traveled abroad, artists and community groups from Finland, Russia, Israel and Palestine, Mexico, and Canada contributed five additional panels to depict a vision of the future without fear.
